David Lynch, My Shadow is a Monster, 2011

I had known David Lynch as an accomplished filmmaker, being a big fan of his show Twin Peaks, but I was not aware of his work in other modes of art. Turns out, his creative expression stems from his painting, and he has worked in several mediums, including photography, sculpture, furniture, and music. I am fascinated by his practice of transcending meditative practice, as well as his expression of emotion and mood in his work. The piece, My Shadow is a Monster, boldly demonstrates his ability to outwardly express his introspection into himself and societal anxieties. The following link is a very engaging interview he had with Phong Bui: https://brooklynrail.org/2019/12/art/DAVID-LYNCH-with-Phong-Bui .
