Algorithms and Portraits

Artist Dimitris Ladopoulous creates portraits by using an information visualization method called ‘treemapping.’ By creating an algorithm in Houdini, the original image’s density of color information is subdivided and results in a mosaic of rectangles. I thought his work was really interesting because of the way the shades of color are divided geometrically but still relay a similar feeling and aura as the original. I think it is a very unique and creative technique. His website is here.
