Arthur Russell

Arthur Russell was an eclectic and experimental musician who made inventive contributions to the avant-garde, disco, classical, and art pop scenes of the 70s and 80s. Despite his prolific work output and collaborations, he officially released very little of his work and remained largely obscure until his death in 1992 due to AIDS-related illness. Much of his music has been released posthumously, including one of my all-time favorite compilation albums Love Is Overtaking Me. I highly recommend watching the documentary made about him, Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell, in order to get a look into the life and work of a true musical innovator.
