This week I found an absolutely stunning piece of art via this article on Colossal. It features an incredibly soothing video highlighting the movement patterns of Starling flocks. The resulting work consists of a mass of gray lines that move synchronously, rippling and undulating through the air. Bou describes his work as a rejection of previous motion analysis works which took a more scientific approach, such as the chronophotography works of Eadweard Muybridge and Etienne-Jules Marey. Instead, the abstraction and movement displayed in Murmurations focuses on the natural beauty and sense of wonderment that we can find in everyday life- an important message especially in these extenuating circumstances that can easily make one feel isolated and trapped.
